ABOUT MR. ARCHER
GREETING AND WELCOME
I am Mr. Archer and I will be your Engineering teacher this year. I live in Riverside, where I met my lovely wife. My wife and I both attended Cal Poly Pomona, where I received my degree in Pure Mathematics. I am a Project Lead The Way certified teacher. I earned my Masters Degree with the University of San Diego in STEAM education. I am in my eleventh year of teaching, and I have previously taught: Geometry, Algebra I & II, Math 6, Math 7, and Math 8. I have been teaching STEAM for the past 9 years. INTERESTS AND HOBBIES I enjoy board games and being outdoors. I am a National Park fanatic. I also enjoy hiking, camping, and rock climbing. I try to spend as much time as possible in our local forests, deserts, or at the beach. I enjoy taking pictures. I love pizza, Indian Food, and Spam Musubi. My favorite scientists are Albert Einstein and Richard Feynman because they dared to think differently. They both were accomplished mathematicians, as well as rock star scientists. |
MY FAMILY
My daughter is 5 years old and starting kindergarten this year. She loves dancing, swimming, crafting, puzzles, and drawing. She loves to collect rocks, and leaves. She also loves hiking, the beach, and all things space & science. My wife is a zoologist, a former field biologist specializing in fish and birds, and she currently teachers 7th grade science in another district. |
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe that learning happens best when it is practical and there is just a little bit of fun involved. I believe that things like math and science should be learned hands-on, and with as much relevance to the real world as possible. I believe that art has the ability to make engineers creative problem solvers, and math has the ability to make artists more technical creators. I do my best to cultivate a culture of growth and innovation in our learning community. In my classroom we will work hard, we will be comfortable with being challenged, and we will be persistent and creative problem solvers. The result of this is in my class your brain is going hurt, then get huge!
